ABOUT US
Spare Parts Robotics "SPR," established in 2016 is a community based FIRST Tech Challenge team designing, building and programming robots that compete in the FIRST Illinois Robotics Northeast Lake League. Our team is made up of High School and Middle School kids from several different schools in the surrounding area and our focus is on engaging teenagers in developing skills in the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).
As part of our ongoing philosophy each team member will participate in learning and leading new roles (i.e. designing/building, engineering/math concepts, programing/coding, game strategy, team branding/social media, robot drivers, CAD, etc...). SPR brings a variety of skills and talents together to form a fun team focused on learning, sharing experiences and personal growth. Several of our alumni have earned FIRST scholarships and are pursuing degrees in engineering, computer science and information technology just to name a few.
In summary, the FIRST Illinois website (www.firstillinoisrobotics.org) says it best...
"FTC is about teaching students the value of hard work, innovation, and creativity. It goes beyond the competition by teaching teenagers about the importance of working together, sharing ideas, and treating each other with respect and dignity.
When a student joins an FTC team, they join a global community of students who are interested in using technology to build a better world tomorrow. There are over 20,000 students from around the globe who design and build robots to compete against one another in competition. They compete locally to earn their way to the annual FTC World Championship!"
